The Turkish Green Crescent Society was founded on March 5, 1920, as an NGO which tackles tobacco,
alcohol, drug, gaming and gambling addictions.
Relying on its centennial experience, the Turkish Green Crescent opened 120 branches across Türkiye,
pioneered the establishment of more than 95 independent Country Green Crescents and assembled the
International Federation of Green Crescent (IFGC) in 2016 as one of the largest umbrella organizations in
Global. In 2015, the Green Crescent Counselling Center (YEDAM) was launched, and today there are 105
Green Crescent Counselling Centers (YEDAM) throughout Türkiye in 81 provinces and in TRNC, which
provide free psychological and social service support to people with substance use disorder and their
relatives. 115 YEDAM Support Hotline service is also available.
Green Crescent has been among the "Public Beneficial Societies" since 1934 due to its efforts to protect
society from addictions and raise awareness. Moreover, it has Special Consultative Status with the
United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It is recognized for the "Turkey Excellence
Award" by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM).
